In 19th-century Essaouira, Morocco, Sarah, a 12-year-old girl raised in the freedom of the port alongside her father, is forced into the restrictive world of women within her community. When a large whale washes ashore from beyond the sea, it unsettles her world and reveals the cost of growing up.
